Wooden balconies & flower carpets
La Orotava
Probably the most elegant old town on Tenerife, high above the sea.
High above the green Orotava valley lies La Orotava, for many the most beautiful old town on the island. Steep, cobbled lanes, stately town palaces and intricate wooden balconies tell of the wealth that sugar and wine once brought to the region.
Casa de los Balcones
The town’s most famous house dates from the 17th century and unites several of the typical Canarian wooden balconies around a flowering courtyard. Today it shows crafts and the traditional embroidery of the island, and the patio alone is worth the visit.
The flower carpets
At Corpus Christi the people of Orotava turn their streets into huge pictures of flower petals and coloured volcanic earth, a centuries-old tradition that draws visitors from around the world. But even outside the festival the stroll through the quiet, stately old town is worthwhile.

Frequently asked questions
