Tenerife is a land of viewpoints. At strategic bends the islanders have built miradores, balconies above valleys, gorges and the sea. A few of them are true classics where you should definitely stop.
Mirador de Humboldt, the most famous view
Even Alexander von Humboldt is said to have paused at the sight of the Orotava valley, and today the viewpoint bears his name. From here the green valley with its banana terraces spreads down to the sea, with the Teide towering behind. It is loveliest in the late afternoon, when the light turns soft.
Mirador de Jardina & the Anaga balconies
Above La Laguna, the Mirador de Jardina opens onto gentle green hills that do not fit the cliché of a dry Canary island at all. Further into Anaga, balcony follows balcony, the Mirador del Pico del Inglés and the Mirador de Cruz del Carmen are among the most rewarding. On some days you stand right above the clouds here.
Tips for the mirador tour
Combine several viewpoints into a relaxed round trip through Anaga, often only a few minutes apart. The distant views are usually clearest in the morning, before the clouds bank up. And: keep the camera ready, the weather changes here by the minute.
