Jardín Botánico
A royal garden full of tropical plants in Puerto de la Cruz.
As early as 1788 the Spanish king had a garden laid out in Puerto de la Cruz to acclimatise tropical plants from the colonies to the European climate. To this day the Jardín Botánico is a green oasis, shady, fragrant and full of botanical treasures.
Tropical variety
On a compact area grow plants from all over the world: orchids, bromeliads, coffee shrubs and palms. The secret star is a strangler fig over 200 years old whose aerial roots form a whole web. Strelitzias, the birds of paradise, a symbol of the island, bloom here in full splendour.
Calm in the middle of Puerto
The garden is compact and can be explored in a good hour, ideal as a quiet stop, for instance combined with the nearby Loro Parque or a stroll through the old town of Puerto de la Cruz.
