Playa de Abama
A sheltered cove with imported golden sand, almost on the doorstep.
While many beaches in the south have black volcanic sand, Playa de Abama glows golden. The small cove, sheltered by cliffs, lies only a few minutes from the holiday home and is one of the calmest places to swim in the area.
Swimming in sheltered water
Because rocks shield the cove, the water here is usually calm and clear, ideal for swimming and snorkelling, even with children. A few parasols and a small beach bar provide shade and cool drinks. The sand was brought in, which makes the beach soft and golden-yellow.
The way down
From the car park above, a path (partly served by the adjacent hotel’s little train) leads down to the cove, sturdy shoes and a little stamina for the way back do no harm. Come early for the best spot. At sunset the surrounding cliffs glow.

Is Playa de Abama suitable for children?
Yes, the water sheltered by rocks is usually calm and shelves gently. The way back up is a little steep, fine for small children if you take it easy.
Is there parking?
There are parking options above the cove; from there it is on foot or by a small shuttle down. You will find a space more easily in the morning.
